Unmarried male candidates with sports achievements are invited to apply online by August 20, 2025. The controversy stems from a new Government Order (GO) issued by the Andhra Pradesh Government on May 20, 2025, which restricts local status for students who studied even one out of four qualifying years outside AP. This decision, mirroring a now-quashed Telangana GO, has been challenged in the AP High Court.

Already, the High Court’s Division Bench has ruled in favor of MBBS students, recognizing them as locals even if they studied a single year outside AP. Following this, engineering students also moved court and secured relief. However, the AP Technical Education Department plans to file a vacate petition today, urging the court to allow continuation of the counselling process based on the controversial GO.

If the court dismisses this petition, AP EAPCET counselling may be fully cancelled and restarted, affecting over 7,000 students who were classified as non-locals. This includes students from border districts who studied intermediate in cities like Hyderabad, Chennai, or Bengaluru.

The situation has also impacted private engineering colleges in AP, as students are opting for deemed universities elsewhere due to uncertainty. Meanwhile, some students who got seats in the first round have already joined classes, which started as per schedule.

The State Government is under pressure to resolve the crisis either by amending the GO, restarting the admission process, or appealing to the Supreme Court. Failure to act swiftly could result in massive academic loss to thousands of students.
